9 persons arrested for holding protest against demolition drive in Jammu

In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, several people including a Jammu-based politician and former minister were arrested by Indian police for holding protests against the eviction of poor people, mostly Muslims, from their lands and properties by the Modi regime in the name of anti-encroachment campaign.

According to Kashmir Media Service, nine persons were arrested after they along with others held a protest demonstration against the demolishing of a vehicle showroom as part of the eviction drive in Narwal bypass area of Jammu district.

The owner of the showroom, Sajjad Ahmed, was also arrested by the police. Politician and former minister Harsh Dev Singh was detained while holding a protest outside Governor House in Jammu against the eviction drive.

The police are conducting surprise raids in various localities as part of the Modi regime’s ongoing policy of harassing the Kashmiri Muslims.

Meanwhile, a report released by the Legal Forum for Kashmir in Islamabad, today, said that the Modi regime has, so far, forcibly taken away the land measuring 178,005 acres in Kashmir and 25,159 acres in Jammu without any prior notice to the owners.

The report maintained that the eviction drive has picked its pace in 20 districts of occupied Jammu and Kashmir where revenue officials, police and bulldozers are demolishing the houses and other structures affecting the livelihood of Kashmiris.

The report urged the UN Secretary General to use all diplomatic, humanitarian and other peaceful means to protect hapless Kashmiri people from forced eviction, genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes at the hands of Indian brutal forces.
