Afghan authorities continue to keep Torkham closed for third consecutive day

Afghan authorities continued to keep the Pak-Afghan border at Torkham closed for the third consecutive day today.

Assistant Commissioner Landi Kotal Irshad Khan told our Peshawar correspondent Falak Niaz that the Afghan interim government had closed the border unilaterally without intimating any reason.

He said the border authorities are ready to reopen the border after a formal request from Afghan authorities.

The Assistant Commissioner said Pakistani authorities at the border are fully cooperating with the people of Afghanistan, especially patients and their attendants, who have valid travelling documents.

People, including patients from Afghanistan and hundreds of containers loaded with fruits, vegetables and other items are waiting on both sides for reopening of the border.
