The anniversary of establishment of Radio Pakistan is also being observed today as Radio Pakistan and Pakistan came into being at the same time. The first English announcement from Radio Pakistan was made by Zahur Azar from Lahore Radio Station at mid night between 13th and 14th August, 1947. Soon after that, the first Urdu announcement about the creation of Pakistan was made by Mustafa Ali Hamdani. At the time of creation of Pakistan, Radio Pakistan was named as Pakistan Broadcasting Service. Later, it was designated as Radio Pakistan. On 20th December, 1972, it was converted into Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation. At the time of creation of Pakistan, there were three Radio Stations in Pakistan including Peshawar, Lahore and Dhaka. Now Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation, commonly known as Radio Pakistan, has its stations in all provinces and Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
