Geneva: Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Azam Nazeer Tarar has reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights at the national and international levels. Addressing the high-level segment of the 58th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, he stated that Pakistan has taken robust legislative and policy measures, including enacting over seventy human rights-related laws in the past decade.
According to Radio Pakistan, Azam Nazeer Tarar highlighted the recent 26th Constitutional Amendment that recognizes a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment as a milestone in Pakistan's human rights framework. The Minister also announced Pakistan's resumption of voluntary contributions to key UN trust funds, which include support for victims of torture, implementation of the Universal Periodic Review, and the participation of Small Island Developing States and Least Developed Countries in the Council.
Addressing global human rights concerns, the Law Minister condemned Israel's ongoing actions in occupied Palestine, particularly in Gaza, and reiterated that forced displacement and demographic re-engineering violate fundamental principles of international law. Azam Nazeer Tarar also denounced India's illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir and its continued denial of the Kashmiri people's right to self-determination. He urged the international community to take decisive action to uphold the rights of Palestinians and Kashmiri people.
