Islamabad: The Federal Cabinet has approved the constitution of a fact-finding committee to investigate the motives behind an exaggerated and irresponsible statement made by a former minister about PIA's pilots.
According to Radio Pakistan, during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the cabinet was briefed on the statement made in Parliament in 2020 concerning Pakistan International Airlines pilots. The statement was deemed irresponsible and exaggerated, reportedly causing severe reputational damage to both the country and the national flag carrier, as well as significant financial losses to the national treasury.
The newly formed committee is tasked with determining the extent of the financial losses incurred by the national airline and treasury due to the former minister's statement.
In addition to the probe, the cabinet has approved a 25 percent reduction of the provincial quota in Federal Government-administered medical and dental colleges. This decision aims to enhance educational opportunities for students with an Islamabad domicile, addressing the low quota for such students in provincial medical and dental colleges.
Moreover, the cabinet gave its approval to the Off the Grid Captive Power Plants Levy Ordinance 2025, and endorsed the Middle East Green Initiative Charter. Pakistan, as a founding member, will participate in restoring 200 million hectares of land and planting 50 billion trees under this initiative.
The cabinet also approved an agreement on the allocation of tariff rate quotas between the Government of Pakistan and the European Union.
