Death Anniversary of Former Punjab Chief Minister Hanif Ramay Commemorated

LAHORE: The nineteenth death anniversary of Hanif Ramay, a distinguished intellectual, painter, journalist, and former Chief Minister of Punjab, was observed on Wednesday, marking a moment of reflection on his multifaceted contributions to the region. Hanif Ramay, who passed away on January 1, 2006, in Lahore, left behind a rich legacy in both political and cultural spheres.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ramay was born in 1930 near Sheikhupura and played a significant role in Punjab's political landscape during the 1970s. He served as the Punjab Finance Minister from 1972 to 1973, followed by a brief tenure as Punjab Governor from February 1973 to March 1974. His political journey peaked when he was appointed as the Chief Minister of Punjab, a position he held from March 15, 1974, to July 15, 1975.

Beyond his political career, Hanif Ramay was also recognized for his academic pursuits. He was associated with the University of California, Berkeley, from 1980 to 1983, where he engaged with intellectual circles and contributed to academic discussions. His diverse career and enduring influence continue to be remembered and celebrated, particularly on his death anniversary.
