Death Anniversary of Pashto Singer Mahjabeen Qazalbash Observed in Peshawar

Peshawar: Fifth death anniversary of famous female Pashto singer and drama artist Mahjabeen Qazalbash was observed on Wednesday.

According to Radio Pakistan, Mahjabeen Qazalbash, born as Surraya Begum in Peshawar, Pakistan, in 1958, was a celebrated figure in the Pashto music industry. Her father belonged to the Turko-Persian Qazalbash community. She embarked on her musical journey at the young age of thirteen and also ventured into Pashto plays, though her primary focus remained on her singing career.

Mahjabeen's versatility as a singer was evident as she performed in various languages, including Urdu, Punjabi, Hindko, Sindhi, Saraiki, Persian, and Turkish. Her contributions to music earned her the title of Bulbul-i-Sarhad, acknowledging her melodious voice. Her exceptional talent was recognized with several awards, including the prestigious President's Pride of Performance.

Mahjabeen Qazalbash passed away on this day in 2020 in Peshawar, leaving behind two sons and a daughter. Her legacy continues to resonate through her music, and her contributions to the cultural heritage of Pakistan are fondly remembered.
