Director General Radio Pakistan Muhammad Tahir Hassan has expressed the resolve to revive the past glory of state broadcaster by upgrading it in line with the changing tones of time.
Taking part in a programme of Radio Pakistan's Dhanak Channel, he said the government is focusing on transforming Radio Pakistan into a broadcast technology park.
The Director General PBC said work on a 1000 kilowatt digital transmitter is underway for uninterrupted and quality broadcast which will increase the efficacy of Radio Pakistan's world service programs for its listeners across the world.
Tahir Hassan lauded the professionalism of newly launched sports channel's team of Radio Pakistan which started airing commentary of T-20 World Cup within six hours with meagre resources and successfully carried it on medium wave.
He said that cricket commentary was highly appreciated by our listeners in far flung areas of the country, while it was also run on loudspeakers in provincial metropolis which rekindled our traditional mela like spirit of gathering around the radio sets to get match updates.
To a question, Muhammad Tahir Hassan said Radio Pakistan has emerged as the most viable medium in this fast age and its digitization has enabled people to get all the useful information by just listening to it on their cell phones without spending time on watching.
He opined that the digital era has consumed not only our five senses but also sixth sense while Radio only involves hearing ability and supplements our working by providing a good background music and information.
To another question about the administrative reforms in the institution, the Director General said we have delegated power to all sections of Radio Pakistan including News, Current Affairs and Programmes so they can work independently without any bureaucratic hurdle.
He expressed the hope this will prove a long way in improving the quality of broadcast.
