Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer Husain says government is committed to protect interests of farmers and ensure the stability of fertilizer prices. Taking notice of increase in price of urea by a fertilizer company, he said any increase in the price of fertilizers without a corresponding increase in gas prices is unjustified. He strongly denounced the unilateral price hike of 561 rupees per bag of Sarsabz Urea fertilizer by Fatima Fertilizer Limited and urged the company to immediately withdraw the increase. The Minister said if the company cannot justify the price hike, the ministry will determine the prices according to relevant laws. Rana Tanveer Hussain said efforts are being made in collaboration with provinces to control hoarding of fertilizers and a mechanism will be made to check availability of real-time stock of fertilizers in the country. He called upon the fertilizer companies to facilitate the farmers in enhancing crop productivity. Source: Radio Pakistan
