Kashmiri Journalists Face Repercussions Amid Global Day for Journalist Safety.

Srinagar: International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists is being observed today. The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2nd November as the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists. This landmark resolution condemns all attacks and violence against journalists and media workers and calls upon States to promote a safe and enabling environment for journalists to perform their work independently. According to Radio Pakistan, as the world observes the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, Kashmiri journalists continue to face severe repercussions for reporting the truth and ground reality of the territory. A report released by Kashmir Media Service in connection with the day highlighted that journalists are working in the most trying conditions in the territory and are being booked under draconian laws for speaking the truth. The report further stated that the BJP-led Indian government is utilizing black laws and undemocratic tactics to suppress media freedom in the occupied territory. The situation underscores the pressing need for international attention and action to ensure the safety and independence of journalists working in such challenging environments.
