The 59th martyrdom anniversary of Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Nishan-i-Haider was observed on Thursday. Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed joined Pakistan Army in 1950 and was commissioned in Punjab regiment. During Indo-Pak war of 1965, as a company commander in the Burki area of Lahore sector, Major Raja Aziz Bhatti chose to stay with his forward platoon which was under incessant artillery and tank attacks. Throughout, undaunted by constant fire from enemies', he organized the defense of the BRB canal along with his brave soldiers. He was struck in the chest by an enemy tank shell and embraced martyrdom on this day in 1965. The Armed Forces of Pakistan including Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee and Services Chiefs have paid glowing tribute to him on his martyrdom anniversary. The statement said that Major Raja Aziz Bhatti's unwavering commitment to duty, unshakeable resolve and supreme sacrifice will always be remembered and revered.
