Karachi: The National Accountability Bureau is conducting inquiries and investigations against the owner of Bahria Town Private Limited, Malik Riaz, and the people associated with him for fraud, deceptive practices, and cheating the public at large.
According to Radio Pakistan, the NAB possesses cogent and credible information indicating that Malik Riaz and his accomplices have illegally possessed and occupied state-owned land, as well as land belonging to private individuals, in locations including Karachi, Takht-Parri, Rawalpindi, and New Murree. These lands have been used for developing housing societies without obtaining the necessary regulatory permissions, such as No Objection Certificates, leading to fraud against the State and the general public to the tune of billions of rupees.
Malik Riaz has been developing housing societies under the name of Bahria Town (Pvt.) Ltd. in other cities, including Peshawar and Jamshoro, by illegally acquiring land. It was reported that he continues to defraud the public by selling plots and files in these illegal housing societies despite not having a clear title to any of the lands involved.
Currently, Malik Riaz is an absconder in the NCA case and is wanted by the court. The NAB has already frozen numerous assets belonging to Bahria Town (Pvt.) Ltd. and Malik Riaz. Residing in the UAE, Malik Riaz has recently launched a project for the construction of luxury apartments in Dubai.
The public is advised against investing in the stated project, as doing so may constitute money laundering, exposing investors to potential criminal and legal proceedings. The Government of Pakistan is actively reaching out to the Government of the United Arab Emirates to seek Malik Riaz's extradition through legal channels.
