The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has welcomed the passage of a UN General Assembly resolution seeking opinion of the International Court of Justice on Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestine.
In a statement, the OIC lauded the countries backing the resolution in line with their historical stances towards supporting Palestinian cause, which affirm their commitment to the international law.
Earlier, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution seeking opinion of the International Court of Justice on the legal consequences of Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian territories.
The resolution was backed by 87 countries against 26 with 53 abstentions.
These countries also called on the UN Secretary General to present a report on the implementation of the resolution in the upcoming General Assembly session in September this year.
