Outgoing Senators ask political parties to work for strengthening democracy

Leader of the House in the Senate Ishaq Dar has assured to undertake all diplomatic efforts for the repatriation of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui from the United States. Responding to the points of Mushtaq Ahmad in the Senate today, he said it will be the priority agenda of the government after cabinet formation to engage the United States on the matter. He pointed out that in the past also, the PML-N had made immense efforts for the repatriation of the daughter of the nation. The outgoing Senators are delivering farewell speeches in the House. Taking the floor, Bahramand Tangi said responsibility rests with all the political parties to work for the strengthening of democracy in the country. Molvi Faiz Muhammad emphasized that the country's laws be framed in accordance with Islamic teachings. He said Balochistan should be given its share in the natural resources. Senator Mushtaq Ahmad said the provinces should be given their rights as enshrined in the Constitution to strengthen the Federation. Shaheen Khalid Butt said efforts should be made for the welfare of overseas Pakistanis who contributed greatly to the economy through their remittances. He said the Kashmir dispute should be forcefully highlighted at the international level. In his speech, Muhammad Akram said Balochistan is the future of Pakistan and efforts should be made to address its problems. Keshoo Bai said the PPP represents every segment of the society. She said during her tenure, she tried to represent the aspirations of backward areas including that of Tharparkar. Abida Muhammad Azeem called for women empowerment and emancipation. Sana Jamali said it is a matter of great distinction for her that she represented Pakistan at various international forums. Those who also spoke on the occasion included Seemi Ezdi, Saleem Mandviwalla and Syed Waqar Mehdi. Later, the House was adjourned to meet again tomorrow at ten thirty in the morning.
