The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), named a 15-player squad yesterday, for the 2023 World Cup in India, next month.
Fast bowler, Hasan Ali has replaced star pacer, Naseem Shah, who was injured during the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, earlier this month.
Pakistan will play its first match of the tournament against the Netherlands, at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad, on Oct 6.
Fast bowler Haris Rauf, who was also injured in Sri Lanka, has been included in the squad after the medical board gave him the all-clear after tests.
Bowling all-rounder, Faheem Ashraf, has been dropped from the Asia Cup team due to poor performance, especially his ineffective bowling in the latter stage of matches.
Chief selector, Inzamam-ul-Haq, said, Ali was picked because of his experience with the new ball. “Since Naseem is out, we needed a bowler who could bowl with a new ball and I think Hasan Ali is a very good choice in that regard,” he said.
“I have not made many changes. I tried my best to carry on the playing combination that has been on for the last two years. We have picked experienced players, who have more chances and ability to perform in the tough matches,” added Inzamam, a former Pakistan captain
