Pakistan urges resolution of prolonged conflicts and occupation to fight extremism

Pakistan has called for addressing the root causes of extremism and terrorism to combat the menaces. Speaking at an event marking International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism, Pakistani delegate Muhammad Jawad Ajmal said foreign occupation, denial of inalienable right to self-determination, injustice, oppression and state terrorism need be addressed to end violent extremism. He called for resolution of decades-old unresolved conflicts of Palestine and Kashmir as part of these efforts. Reaffirming Pakistan's condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, the delegate emphasized renewed international pledge to promote peace, tolerance, inter-faith dialogue and countering hate speech. He called upon the UN to make appropriate changes in its counter-terrorism architecture and sanctions regimes to include the new and emerging forms of extremist and violent acts by white supremacist, far right extreme right wing, violent nationalist, xenophobic, Islamophobic, anti-Muslim and Hindutv a groups.
