Karachi: The 12th edition of the international defence exhibition and seminar, IDEAS 2024, commenced at the Expo Center, Karachi. Inaugurating the event, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif stressed the importance of integrating public and private sectors to boost the efficiency and volume of Pakistan's defence production and exports. According to Radio Pakistan, Khawaja Asif highlighted the lucrative opportunities for profitable investments, joint ventures, and trade in various sectors, including defence. He noted that while Pakistani defence products are already competing in international markets and being exported to over 60 countries, the current export volume does not fully reflect its potential. The Defence Minister pointed out that the 12th edition of IDEAS, featuring participation from start-ups and leading engineering and tech universities in Pakistan, as well as international defence experts and manufacturers, is expected to significantly contribute to the development of Pakistan's defence indu stry. He revealed plans to launch a defence ecosystem through IDEAS, fostering connectivity between academia, industry, and public-private sectors. Khawaja Asif reiterated the government's dedication to fostering a business-friendly environment that promotes investment in human capital and skilled professionals within the defence sector. Addressing the complex geostrategic environment, he called for increased regional and extra-regional cooperation to tackle multifaceted security challenges, advocating for the responsible use of modern technology to enhance global safety. Pakistan's role as a responsible state in promoting international peace and stability was underscored by the Defence Minister. He emphasized the need for reciprocity, mutual interest, and adherence to international norms in Pakistan's bilateral and multilateral relations. Discussing the geostrategic transformation of South Asia, he highlighted the necessity of regional cooperation and active engagement to achieve peace, security, and socio -economic development. He reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to meaningful dialogue based on equality to resolve bilateral issues and promote peace in the region. The ongoing IDEAS 2024 exhibition is showcasing a wide array of modern and traditional defence equipment, weapon systems, and vehicles, attracting significant interest from global defence experts. Defence production and exports remain a priority for the Special Investment Facilitation Council.
