President, PM Pledge to Uphold Democratic Values

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have renewed the pledge to strengthen parliamentary institutions and safeguard democratic values. In their separate messages on International Day of Parliamentarism being observed on Monday, they vowed to uphold the principles of democracy, freedom, inclusivity, tolerance, and socio-economic justice.

According to Radio Pakistan, President Asif Ali Zardari emphasized that through effective legislation and oversight, Parliament can help improve public service delivery, enhance governance, and strengthen democratic institutions. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, highlighted that the Parliament occupies a central place in Pakistan's democratic framework and ensures accountability, transparency, gender equality, and social protection.

In his message on International Day of Parliamentarism, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq stated that parliamentary supremacy is essential for the stability of the democratic system. He noted that a functional, transparent, and effective parliament serves as a true voice of the people and plays a pivotal role in strengthening democratic institutions. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also mentioned that Pakistan's parliament would continue to work closely with the Inter-Parliamentary Union to achieve global peace, democracy, and sustainable development goals.
