Islamabad: Wafaqi Mohtasib Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi has announced that his office received and redressed a record number of complaints over the past year. Speaking to media representatives in Islamabad, he highlighted the significant achievements made under his leadership.
According to Radio Pakistan, Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi revealed that a total of 226,371 complaints were received during the past year, out of which 223,171 were successfully addressed. This reflects an increase of 17% in the receipt of complaints and a 16% rise in their resolution. The Wafaqi Mohtasib emphasized the ongoing efforts to expand the reach of his office, with new regional offices established in Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit, bringing the total number to twenty-four.
Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi further elaborated on the institution's future plans, which include setting up more regional offices in remote areas within the year. He proudly mentioned that 92.9% of the decisions made by his organization were implemented in the past year, with a steadfast commitment to achieving a 100% implementation rate. Since its inception in 1983, the services offered by the Wafaqi Mohtasib's Office have benefitted nearly 2.3 million households.
The Wafaqi Mohtasib also noted that in 2024, investigation officers conducted 126 Khuli Katcheries (Open Courts) across the country. He stressed that heads of federal government agencies and departments have been instructed to ensure swift implementation of his office's decisions. He described the Wafaqi Mohtasib as a "poor man's court," aimed at serving the marginalized and downtrodden segments of society.
On an international front, Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi highlighted his role as President of the Asian Ombudsman Association, where he chaired the 25th meeting of its Board of Directors in Istanbul and delivered the keynote speech at the International Ombuds Summit in Hong Kong. He also acknowledged the crucial role of the media as partners and stakeholders in raising awareness about the Wafaqi Mohtasib and its services in support of citizens' rights.
