ISLAMABAD: Inspector General Islamabad Police Ali Nasir Rizvi has declared that non-lethal weapons were employed to disperse protestors from D-Chowk and nearby areas in the capital. Addressing a press conference alongside Chief Commissioner Islamabad Muhammad Ali Randhawa, Rizvi disclosed that a total of 954 protestors have been arrested, with 610 apprehended yesterday. According to Radio Pakistan, over two hundred vehicles have been impounded, and various weapons, including pistols and Kalashnikovs, were confiscated from the protestors. Rizvi emphasized that the search operation is ongoing and reiterated that terrorism will not be tolerated under the guise of protest. He stated that strict legal action will be taken against the protestors and their supporters to protect the lives and properties of the citizens. Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, asserted that no one will be permitted to defy the law or challenge the authority of the state. He acknowledged the efforts of all law enforcemen t agencies in managing the situation in the federal capital. Randhawa also mentioned that the data of Afghan nationals would be verified, and only those with valid NOCs would be allowed to reside in the federal capital. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences issued a statement clarifying that reports circulating on social media regarding the death toll or the nature of injuries sustained by protestors are unfounded. The statement highlighted that during the PTI protest, 66 law enforcement personnel and 36 civilians were treated at the PIMS emergency, with most being discharged after receiving first aid for minor injuries. A few individuals remain admitted for further treatment.
