UN Acknowledges Vital Role of Pakistani Troops in Global Peace.

Islamabad: Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations Munir Akram has said that Pakistani police personnel have earned respect for their professionalism and devotion to duty under the banner of UN police. Addressing a ceremony on UN Police Day in Islamabad today, he said the story of UN peacekeeping is incomplete without recognizing the vital contributions of UN police. According to Radio Pakistan, highlighting the significant contribution of Pakistan to the UN missions, he said Pakistan has deployed two hundred and thirty thousand troops over the years in forty-six peacekeeping missions. He noted the pioneering achievements of Pakistani Policewoman Shahzadi Gulfam, who was the first-ever recipient of the International Female Police Keeper Award in 2011. Munir Akram emphasized that Pakistan will continue to play its effective role in enhancing the UN peacekeeping capability. Speaking on the occasion, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, acknowledged the importan t role of Pakistan in global peace. He stressed on enhancing the capability of police to cope with the current challenges.
