Islamabad: The United Nations has adopted a resolution renewing the global commitment to the principle of self-determination for peoples still subjected to colonial, foreign, and alien occupation. This significant resolution was co-sponsored by sixty-five countries and submitted by Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram. It was adopted without a vote in the General Assembly. According to Radio Pakistan, the resolution has been sponsored by Pakistan since 1981. It aims to focus the world's attention on peoples still struggling for their inalienable right to self-determination, including those in Palestine and Kashmir. The resolution urges the responsible states to cease immediately their military intervention in and occupation of foreign countries and territories.
