UN experts condemn repeated use of emergency measures against protesters by Sri Lanka govt

The United Nations and several prominent international human rights organisations including Human Rights Watch have condemned the repeated use of emergency regulations against peaceful protesters by the Sri Lanka government.

In their separate statements, they urged newly appointed Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe to end crackdown against months-long protests over island nation’s worst economic crisis in decades.

They condemned the crackdown calling it a misuse of emergency measures.
