World Ozone Day is being observed today to highlight importance of public awareness in protecting the ozone layer for both human and environmental sustainability on earth. This year theme of the day is "Montreal Protocol - Advancing Climate Actions". In his message on World Ozone Day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed government's commitment towards preservation of the Ozone Layer, a vital shield that safeguards life on Earth from the sun's harmful ultraviolet radiation. He said unfortunately, human activities have led to the depletion of the ozone layer, resulting in the formation of the ozone hole. The Prime Minister said Pakistan has been playing its role as an important signatory to UN Conventions and ratified the Montreal Protocol in 1992. He said government of Pakistan established a dedicated National Ozone Unit in 1996. The Prime Minister said we are on track to meet our 67.5 percent reduction target by next year having transitioned many industries to ozone-friendly technologies.
